seven months and sweet

kara didn't let a black eye keep her from getting harry's pictures taken.   here are a few from the seven month session.

finally a vehicle...and food fun

the miller household is enjoying our replacement for the beloved blazer.  after much rapid research over the course of a few days we settled on the mazda cx9.  it has a third row seat but still keeps us out of the minivan family, a personal goal of ours.  plus now we get to hear jude ask to ride in the big fat car.
a blue car family
speaking of fat...earlier today i had to take a breathe when jude says 'mommy why are you so big?'  excuse me i thought.  he says it again, 'why are you so big?...and harry is so little?'  ah, ok, he's comparing me to the 8 month old, i feel better.

speaking of me, the black and blue face that stuck around for three weeks is finally gone!  a few technical problems kept us from posting any updates until now.  but its worth one more look at the blazer and how grateful we are to be ok.
harry and mommy's side

It was only a week before crash day kara felt sad about the seat.  little harry is growing so fast. he outgrew the carrier car seat that allowed us to tote him around.  now he needed the big ole seat.  the darn thing took up so much room.  we now credit that big ole seat with keeping him unhurt when the door crushed in around the grey and black fabric lifesaver.

a pic of harry and jude with car seats just days before the crash

ok. let's move on from the crash of 2012.  we promise there are plenty of fun moments of laughter mixed with some tears, feeling completely overwhelmed and a bit bewildered.   like this moment where jude says "mommy look! my toast is now a seven!"
math toast

and i totally recommend these cute sandwich cutters from pottery barn kids.  we used a credit to drive off with train, truck, or plane on our pb & j's or morning toast.

cute cutters

and we leave you today, on a day when carolina is NOT playing basketball (sniff) in the final four, with a bit of news you can use.    yes, here is what happens when you help feed your infant, then iron the cheerios into your shirt pocket.  don't let this happen at home

uh oh cheerios

outdoor fun

the forecast says 70's for days so today we pulled out a bunch of the backyard summer toys and the hose. before we celebrate the temps, we have to celebrate harry and his new sitting up skills.

mom picked the hat
i learned today it is much easier to coo, cuddle and play with harry outside. jude was so into playing with water that he didn't mind mom giving all her attention to his little brother for a bit.

when we told jude the weather was warm this week his first words were "we can get out my pool!" its still a bit too chilly to swim but he had a great time filling dumping and floating his boats.

i hear kids in florida do this all the time in march

the warm snap caught mom off guard with jude's wardrobe. we avoided malfunctions, but we have only like 3 pairs of shorts that fit. usually we can wait til april to think about warm weather attire.

set for summer, please don't snow
kara is loving the chance to also take walks as she hides her black eye behind big sunglasses. harry is an even happier baby with all the fresh air and things to look at.
we still hear from him at night with a meal request, but we are making progress towards that long awaited goal of harry and mommy sleeping through the night.

i don't remember the boom

they say march comes in like a lion, out like a lamb. the weather has been kind. but life is roaring for the millers this week.

what began as a road trip with two kids to grandpa henry and grandma nancy, ended with a totaled car and a trip to the er.
be assured both boys are ok. in fact here is mr harry this morning, trying his high chair for the first time.

seven months of yummy
we already see his personality shining through. harry wants to help with the spoon, something jude never did. contrary to expectations, high chair does not = less messy eating than bumbo.

wearing my carrot apricots with pride
jude is also fine post crash. here's our handsome boy wearing lace-up shoes for the first time. note: he had nothing to do with tying them. but its a start...

jude dude
we recently cut his hair much shorter. our 3 1/2 year old still looks handsome. but the shorter do should save on the frequent haircuts required to keep his longer locks tamed.

so here's how we spent our saturday night.

after the accident

one minute you're driving along, discussing how you can dinner splurge with your gift card, the next minute your vehicle is sliding across the highway on black ice. kara was in the passenger seat. thankfully she doesn't remember the boom.
one week later she has a multi-colored black eye with bruises of various shades along the left side of her face. the ribs are still sore, but everything will heal.
the car, the chevy blazer that joined us a few years after moving from new york, is no more.
the search for a new car is unexpected and unwelcome. but at least we are finding fascinating moments in it--who knew every car now has dual air controls?
here's hoping the lions go away for the rest of march.
